Transitions

Fall weather is my favorite of all the seasons. I particularly love the bright, crisp air and the intense yellow light toward the end of the day. I love the changing trees and colors. Odd but true, I even enjoy raking leaves.

Another fondness for fall stems from the academic calendar. I liked school and the freshness of each new year; the opportunity to reinvent myself through activities and choices. In my mind, fall always represented moving forward, whereas spring, despite its blossoms, signified leaving things behind.
In “Transitions” I attempted to bring these feelings together. I pieced two different PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabrics then painted them with Dynaflow. The original colors were too disjointed for my taste so I muted them by quilting the trees with thread in complimentary colors to the background. I used inktense pencils and acrylic paint to intensify and highlight the trees and water reflections.
