"Intertwined", 18" x 27" |
Life is full of tangled things. Depression and
worries are trials that test our ability constantly, just like the intertwined
tree branches in the forest that their tree leaves battle with one another. It disturbs
our thoughts and makes us confused.
Mother Nature is everywhere.
She is like a prophet hiding herself in the dark. There is a distance but you
still feel the intimacy. She often narrows the scope of her existence and shows
the direction for those who want to open their visions. She gives her wisdom to
those who are frustrated. What an honor to sew this piece of my beloved mentor.
Whenever there is a student, there is always a
teacher. The pursuit of perfection often brings more disturbance and challenge. That was how I felt
during the creative process of this piece. Maybe I cared too much about this
piece and lack of concentration. While sewing this piece, I
realized that seeing is not always believing. The meanings are hidden behind
the works. Without faith, I can‘t sew the huge tree in the dark. Without sincere willingness, I can’t complete the bright miniature forest in solid-void space,
just like people’s ignorance of facing all things. To my surprise, Mother
Nature gives me trials in sewing this piece. I’m thankful for Nature’s guidance.

Beautiful Hsin-Chen. I can see a maturity in this work and perhaps a new direction for you working with the darker hues?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue! I discovered many possibilities when I made this black piece, but I don’t think it could be a new direction for me. Anyway, I do enjoy the creative process a lot! It gave me an opportunity to think about the unknown world!
DeleteLovely piece, Hsin-Chen. What a wonderful story of perseverance, and having the faith to go forward into the unknown.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate! I’m happy to convert my feelings into a work and I really enjoy the creative process.
DeleteVery powerful! I love the ominous dark forest juxtaposed with the bright center. Your hand stitching is amazing! I definitely feel the mood of this piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa-Marie! I just noticed that I have made 2 quilts of tree in our second cycle, but I didn't do it on purpose. I just follow how I feel from the challenge topics. By the way, the trees on your quilt are special and lovely!
DeleteA wonderful interpretation, Hsin-Chen! I love the "light at the end of the tunnel" inset against the ominous, dark foreground. Faith is a powerful guide.
